Grades are submitted on a _________ basis
    There are _ grading periods.

How do I interpret the scores on my student's papers, progress reports, and report cards?

Assesment (test) Grades are based on the following rubric
    • 4 – Work demonstrates an accurate and thorough understanding of the concepts underlying the assignment. It includes supporting details and/or examples. Clearly above expectations and grade level.
    • 3 – Work demonstrates a mostly accurate understanding of the concepts underlying the assignment. Meets expectations and is at grade level.
    • 2 – Work demonstrates a developing understanding of the concepts underlying the assignment. Slightly below expectations and grade level.
    • 1 – Work demonstrates an inaccurate understanding of the concepts underlying the assignment. Clearly below expectations and grade level.

Homework Grades are based on the following rubric:
    • 4 – Homework is typed in an easy to read font or penmanship is impeccable. Student writes questions, answers in complete sentences, incorporating the question into the answer, heading is complete and in the correct position. All answers are correct and show complete understanding of the assignment objective. Great care & detail is given to make sure understanding is clear. Work is above grade level.
    • 3 – Student uses neat penmanship, writes the questions, answers in complete sentences, incorporating the question into the answer, heading is complete and in the correct position. All corrections (if any) are made neatly in red pen. Appropriate detail is shown and at grade level.
    • 2 – Any of these conditions are present: messy penmanship, did not write question, did not answer in complete sentences, incorporating the question into the answer, missing complete heading, corrections not made in red. Detail is missing and slightly below grade level, student can do better.
    • 1– Two or more of these conditions are present: messy penmanship, did not write question, did not answer in complete sentences, incorporating the question into the answer, missing complete heading or the assignment is incomplete, late, or unrelated to topic. Lack of care and understanding is abundantly clear.

Groupwork Grades are based on the following rubric:
    • 4 This student is a leader in the group.  Very helpful, encourages others to participate and discuss mathematics
    • 3 This student gets along with others in the group and contributes to the discussion.
    • 2 This student has trouble staying on task, is heard discussing "non-mathematical" topics, or will only work independently.
    • 1 - This student is disruptive and detrimental to the learning atmosphere, is perhaps out of seat with out permission.   Needs much correction and redirection.

What does all of this mean?

Scores from individual assignments are entered into the gradebook and weighted as follows:
    Tests (Knowledge and Proficiency)= 50%
Groupwork (Cooperation and Contribution) = 30%
Homework (Organization and Responsibility) = 20%
Each category's percent grade is multiplied by it's weight. Then the results are added, thus arriving at the final weighted grade.
    What does an “A” mean?

90%-100% - Students exceed standards. In other words: Student consistently demonstrates skills beyond the grade level standards.
    What does a “B” mean?

80%-89% - Student usually meets standards. In other words: Student is on track to reach the standard by the end of the year
    What does a “C” mean?

70%-79% - Student struggles to meet standards. In other words: Student is showing growth, but is not quite on track to reach the standard by the end of the year.
    What does a “D or F” mean?

60%-below - Standards are below expectations. In other words: Student needs to seek out additional practice and support to reach the standard by the end of the year.
